IUPUI Music Academy Seeking Piano Instructor

Motivated, qualified, part-time piano teacher wanted to teach for the IUPUI Music Academy, beginning January 2017. Must be available to teach Saturdays on the IUPUI Campus (535 W. Michigan St, Indianapolis, IN 46202), and 1-3 additional days at one of our cooperating schools (St. Richard’s Episcopal School in north-central Indianapolis and St. Christopher School in Speedway) where we provide music lessons in after-school programs. Harmony Roadâ„¢ certification and/or experience in teaching elementary-level group piano is desirable, but not a requirement. Compensation commensurate with education and experience. Ability and interest in recruiting and strategizing for growth and improved outreach for the Academy is highly desirable. Demonstrable commitment to well-rounded musical education, offering students a transferable and integrated body of knowledge and skills that may apply to a broad range of styles and settings. Bachelor’s degree in music required; Master’s preferred.

Students are admitted to the Academy without audition, and teaching artists are expected to be both flexible and creative in formulating relevant and engaging individualized curriculum.

The IUPUI Music Academy offers private instruction in piano, guitar, strings, voice, flute, and percussion and responds to market demand, adding instrumental areas where feasible. Group experiences include elementary piano/music classes, string ensemble classes, hand drumming, and a rotating list of other topic areas.

The IUPUI Music Academy has existed since 1996 with the mission of providing high-quality music instruction and arts exposure, meeting the needs of the University community, surrounding neighborhoods, and the greater Indianapolis region, without barriers to access often imposed by economic circumstances or racial, gender, or religious identity. The Academy exists as an outreach of the IU Department of Music and Arts Technology in the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology at IUPUI. The Department offers graduate and undergraduate degrees in music technology and music therapy.
