On Hendrix- "I often think of him when I'm playing. Maybe he's smiling up there."

Jeff Beck established himself as a lead guitarist in the seminal British hard rock band The Yardbirds. He formed the Jeff Beck Group with future Faces Rod Stewart and Ron Wood and drummer Micky Waller.

Jeff Beck played guitar through a fuzz box built by Roger Mayer on Heart Full Of Soul and other Yardbirds singles.

Jeff Beck frequently jammed with Hendrix in clubs. Jeff Beck was greatly influenced by Hendrix- he started out playing Stratocasters, played Telecasters through the Yardbirds period, then switched back to
Stratocasters after Hendrix arrived on the scene. Hendrix also convinced Beck to abandon the super- light (.008's) strings he had been using, and go to a heavier gauge (.011's) which he uses now.

"Once the Hendrix era came along, I had a very hard time doing what I'd always done because Hendrix has started doing it. I thought, rather than be a follower, I'd rather not play for a while. He was like a big explosion that flattened everything, left nothing standing."

Jeff Beck shared an album credit with Seal on 1993's Stone Free: A Tribute to Jimi Hendrix. Their performance of the Hendrix composition Manic Depression was a highlight of the album.  He is still very active in music, his latest release being 2002's You Had It Coming, which includes Dirty Mind which won a Grammy Award in 2002 for Bestt Rock Instrumental Performance.
