| Randy California
(1951-1997) "Just 16 years old when Spirit started, Randy had played for several months in a New York band led by Jimi Hendrix [Jimmy James and the Blue Flames]. When Hendrix went to London to form the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Randy returned to the West Coast and Spirit was born. He was the first West Coast guitarist to display Hendrix's technique of using electronic feedback to create nearly endless sustained guitar lines, which he played with a grace and lyricism that was very much his own." Barry Hansen ("Dr. Demento") Spirit recorded some essential rock listening. A great place to start is the last album by the original line up, Twelve Dreams Of Dr. Sardonicus, from 1970. |
