Lucille Jeter was one of eight children born to Preston Jeter and his wife Clarice. Lucille Jeter married James Allen (Al) Hendrix on March 31, 1942, at the age of sixteen. On November 27 of that same year, with Al stationed in the army in Alabama, Lucille (Jeter) Hendrix gave birth to Johnny Allen Hendrix. When Al Hendrix returned home from the army, he had the name legally changed to James Marshall Hendrix, just two months shy of his fourth birthday. Al and Lucille divorced in 1951. She re-married in December 1957, and died on February 2, 1958, from a ruptured spleen.
