| The Rainflowers, aka, Jimmy
James and the Blue Flames
Jimmy James and the Blue Flames was the name of Jimi Hendrix's working musical group during the period when he was based in Greenwich Village, from 196X-196X. Randy California (later of L.A.-based group Spirit) is known to have played in this group. California recalled meeting Hendrix in Manny's Music. Jeff "Skunk" Baxter (later of Steely Dan and the Doobie Brothers) also claims to have played with Hendrix in this group: Randy California did not recall Baxter's involvement. It is known that Baxter was there in that time and place, because his employment at Manny's Music is documented. Jimmy James and the Blue Flames' only known performances were as regular performers at the Cafe' Wha? Hendrix was performing at
the Cafe' Wha? when Chas Chandler first saw him.
