Stratocaster, Fender (see also Fender Guitars)

"I use a Fender Stratocaster. [... ] The Stratocaster is the best all-around guitar for the stuff we’re doing.  You can get the very bright trebles, and the deep bass sound.  I tried Telecaster and it only has two sounds, good and bad, and a very weak tone variation.  The Guild guitar is very delicate but it has one of the best sounds.  I tried one of the new Gibsons, but I literally couldn’t play it at all, so I’ll stick with Fender."
-JH Hollywood, CA  August, 1967.

The Fender Stratocaster was Jimi Hendrix's guitar of choice for ninety percent of his work, both in the studio and in concert. Hendrix played left-handed, so he converted standard right-handed models by restringing them. According to Stephen Stills, Hendrix told him "they play a lot better upside-down."  Hendrix is known to have owned and played approximately 32 Strats, as guitarists fondly call them. Tying for distant second place are two Gibson models, the Flying V and the SG, of which Hendrix owned two each.

The Fender Stratocaster made its' official debut' in early 1954, and has since become perhaps the most successful electric guitar ever.
