The Who

The Who (Pete Townshend, guitar & vocals, Roger Daltrey, lead singer, John Entwistle, bass and Keith Moon, drums) were a popular British Invasion group whose hits included: My Generation, I Can See For Miles and the rock opera Tommy. Pete Townshend was known in those days for his stage act, which included smashing his guitar at the end of the show. The Who's management, Chris Stamp and Kit Lambert, formed Track Records, the Jimi Hendrix Experience's label in England. As a result of this association, many of the Experience's early gigs were as opening act for the Who.
At the Monterey Pop Festival, a disagreement developed between Hendrix and Townshend, over who would play first. Neither group wanted to follow the other. Hendrix lost the argument, and ended up going on after the Who, and burning his guitar.
