Student Ensembles
Chamber Ensembles
Director: Jodi L. Sowers
This is a performance class, designed to further skills on each individual instrument, learn diverse styles of music, and work in a group setting. Private coaching will be offered and a performance will be scheduled for the end of the semester. Acceptance is by audition only and requires a minimum of an intermediate level of proficiency. Advanced musicians are also encouraged. The following instruments may be included in this course: Flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, strings, guitar, piano, French horn, and voice. It is a fun way to continue playing for non-majors or to challenge musicianship levels as a music major. All musical styles and musicians are considered.
IUPUI Guitar Ensemble
Director: John Alvarado
The IUPUI Guitar Ensemble is part of the IUPUI Department of Music and Arts Technology. The ensemble brings together guitarists of various abilities and backgrounds to develop the skills of ensemble playing. Membership is open, on an audition basis, to any student enrolled at IUPUI regardless of major. Students in the ensemble have the opportunity to build their musicianship skills by improving their reading, learning to perform in an ensemble situation, performing under a conductor, and participating in live performances every semester. Repertoire includes classical, world, jazz, blues, and other styles of music.
AUDITION AND INSTRUCTOR APPROVAL REQUIRED.
Jazz Ensembles I, II and III (Big Bands)
Director: Easton Stuard
The award-winning Jazz Ensembles are the largest jazz groups at IUPUI. The groups perform pieces from all the different eras of jazz, spanning from the classic big band to the modern jazz orchestra. Pieces performed include swing classics, originals, and cutting edge modern music. The big bands are directed by John Vander Gheynst, Director of Jazz Studies at IUPUI, and Rich Dole, IUPUI faculty member. All experience levels are welcome!

Jazz Small Groups (Combos)
Director: Easton Stuard
Jazz combos at IUPUI are small jazz groups consisting of 4-8 members that focus on improvisation and playing as a band. Each group is directed by its own faculty member and is organized by each player's experience as a jazz musician. The number of combos offered depends on the number of interested students. Current directors may include John Vander Gheynst, Steve Allee, Sandy Williams, Rich Dole, and/or Jack Helsley. All experience levels are welcome!

University Choir
Director: Mr. David B. Mannell
IUPUI University Choir, a mixed vocal ensemble, is dedicated to excellence in performing a variety of repertoire from the standard classics to newer compositions. There are no prerequisites or audition requirements to be a member of the ensemble, just a strong and dedicated work ethic to make good music. The IUPUI University Choir rehearses once each week and is in concert once a semester. The ensemble is open to all IUPUI students, faculty, staff and anyone from the community; it may be taken for credit, but is not required.
