Percussionst Scott Deal was a guest performer for the 2014 Vancouver New Music Festival in October of this year. The Festival presented an international roster of composers, sound artists and performers who “are fostering new, sound-based explorations of ideas that emerge from natural, interlocking cycles and alternative systems of thought.” Deal performed two large percussion works by John Luther Adams; Ilimaq, a 45-minute work for solo percussionist and electronics, and Four Thousand Holes, a duet for piano, percussion and electronic aura that he performed with pianist William Fried.
In addition to featuring Adams’ music, the festival also highlighted the music of Annea Lockwood, Hildegard Westerkamp, Akio Suzuki, and many others. Deal’s performances received very positive reviews that are linked below. For more information, visit the Vancouver New Music website.
